Preparation:
Polyseal must be diluted with 10 to 15% water per volume depending on the equipment used.
Polyseal can be slightly tinted with water-based colorants, such as Mixol, up to 3% per volume. It is still important to always do a staining test before starting a project.
This product must be used directly over the wood surface with or without dyeing.
It is possible to increase the sanding and drying properties of Polyseal by adding 5% Procat crosslinking catalyst per volume.
The surface must be clean and free of oil, dust and any contaminants that may cause weak adhesion or create fisheyes. Clean the surface with water or denatured alcohol. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying.
Finely sand the surface to be finished with the sandpaper with the appropriate grit (120 to 180) depending on the desired type of finish.
Spray each coat of Polyseal using a HVLP, conventional, airless / air assisted or air turbine system. Consult the manufacturer's documentation for configuration parameters depending on the viscosity of the coating and the intended use.
For small projects, Polyseal can be applied with a poly-nylon brush.
Spray system operators must wear a NIOSHA certified respirator during the application of this product. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for this purpose.
Application:
- After the surfaces have been prepared, dust off with a soft cloth.
- Mix the product gently but thoroughly before use.
- Apply a 4 to 5 mil wet coat of Polyseal to seal the wood.
- If necessary, apply a second coat. Make sure not to exceed two coats.
- Once dry (after 1 hour), sand the surface with 320 or 400 grit paper.
- Dust with a soft cloth and apply a coat of Polyclear as a finish.
Drying time:
2 hours - Allow each coat to completely dry before applying additional coats. For best results, apply in low moisture conditions. If bleaching or veiling is observed on coats that have not completely dried, allow the lacquer to return to a clear state before applying additional coats. The ideal temperature for drying is between 15 and 25 ° C. Complete chemical drying is done after 100 hours in this temperature range.
