Directions for use

Preparation:

Polyclear must be diluted with 10 to 15% water depending on the equipment used.

If the wood has not been previously sealed with Polyseal Polyurethane Sealer, two coats of Polyclear will need to be applied.

To provide even more resistance to abrasion and household chemicals, 5% Procat crosslinking catalyst can be added to the mix.

The surface must be clean and free of oil, dust and any contaminant that may cause weak adhesion or cause fisheyes.

Clean the surface with water or denatured alcohol. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying.

If the surface has already been covered with a sealer, a glaze or a stain, check that these products are mutually compatible by performing a test beforehand.

Ensure that the sealer has been sanded with a minimum of 400 grit paper and that any contamination has been removed.

Oil based glazes should be air dried and tested to ensure proper Polyclear adhesion.

Pigmented primers such as pigmented lacquers or sealants should be dry and sanded lightly to eliminate surface defects.

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the coating of pigmented sealants and basecoats.

Spray each layer of Polyclear using an HVLP, conventional, airless / air assisted or air turbine system. Consult the manufacturer's recommendations for configuration parameters based on the viscosity of the coating and the intended use.

Spray system operators must wear a NIOSHA certified respirator during the application of this product. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for this purpose.

Application:

  1. After the surfaces have been prepared, dust off with a soft cloth.
  2. Mix the product gently but thoroughly before use.
  3. Polyclear can be applied with a spray gun, a poly-nylon brush or a varnish roller.
  4. Apply the necessary number of coats of Polyclear to obtain the desired finish.

A maximum of 2 coats applied at 4 to 5 wet mils per coat is required to obtain a dry 5 mils film. Allow each coat to dry for at least 45 minutes before covering. Sanding between coats is not necessary unless contamination has affected the formation of the film, or if the last coat applied has dried for more than 12 hours. In that case, sand with 600 paper to eliminate surface defects and contaminations. Remove sandng dust with a soft cloth and apply the final coat as desired.

Recommended settings for spray systems

  • HVLP: Needle: 1.5 mm
  • Pneumatic airless sprayer: Tip .09 - .11
  • Airless Sprayer: Fine nozzle

Consult the documentation of your spray system for specific air pressure settings.

Drying time:

3 hours - Allow each coat to dry completely before applying additional layers. For best results, apply in low moisture conditions. If bleaching or veiling is observed on coats that have not completely dried, allow the lacquer to return to a clear state before applying additional coats. The ideal temperature for drying is between 15 and 25 ° C. Complete chemical drying is done after 100 hours in this temperature range.
