How to tone down a too-orange stain

Hello- looking for some advice with regards to a DIY amateur woodworking project. We are trying to build a headboard for our ikea bed, so we’ve stained some yellow pine 1x2x8 with Old Masters gel varnish in Fruitwood. However the result is too orange to match the bed. What can I use to tone down it down? I read that a blue/blue-green universal tint in a poly might work? Open to suggestions, and greatly appreciate any help-first picture is the bed we are trying to match, second is the varnished 1x2x8

Hi,

Yes it is possible to add Mixol Universal Tinting Paste in blue/green shades to camoflage the orange but testing is required.

You must be very cautious when doing so. You will have to test by SLOWLY adding tinting paste one drop at a time and test until you get the desired effect.

FYI, wood does change color over time and can be difficult to get a true match.

Kind Regards,
