Tartaric Acid is used in a mixture with calcium carbonate (like whiting powder) and one or many earth pigments to produce an effervescence reaction favoring the dispersion of coloring earths in water: we call these “effervescent” earth.

Tartaric Acid is also used as a mordant in a coloring preparation from Dyer's Mulberry.
