Water Reducible Linseed Oil Stain System Ultima-WR4000 by Emtech

Discontinued

5/5 · 1 review

The Emtech Ultima-WR4000 Stain System is built upon a unique hybridized linseed oil emulsion base and organic colorants that allow this stain to be thinned, and cleaned with water, while still providing the deep, rich color penetration of traditional linseed oil. No turpentine, mineral spirits or ammonia is required for thinning this material. Ultima-WR4000 Stains clean up with basic water and mild detergent.

These linseed emulsions allow for the stain to remain open longer as well as preventing the lapping and fairing effect commonly found with acrylic based stains. Ultima-WR4000 Stains are blended with UV absorbers and reflectors, so that the colors remain vivid and true when exposed to UV light.

Directions for use

Preparation

All surfaces to be finished must be clean, dry and free of excess contamination. Sand the surface following the grain with 120-grit sandpaper, complete the sanding with 220-grit sandpaper. Remove dust.

Application

Some wood species require a pre-stain conditioning prior to a stain application in order to prevent splotching and uneven color generation. Sand surface to be conditioned with 220-grit or finer sandpaper to tighten the grain. Apply 1 coat of Ultraseal WB Sealer and Barrier Coat
or 1 coat of EM1000 Universal Sanding Sealer, reduced 50% with water as a conditioning pre-seal. Allow pre-seal to dry for 45 minutes to 1 hour before sanding and evaluating for color coat application.

Thoroughly mix the contents before applying.

Apply stain evenly with a cleanm lint-free cotton cloth, synthetic stain pad, brush or spray gun. Allow stain to penetrate into the wood grain, then swipe off excess with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth to control color tone and depth. Allow stain to dry until the surface is no longer tacky to the touch. Reapply stain as required to maintain color continuity. Allow the last coat of stain to dry for a minimum of 2 hours at moderate rom temperatures before applying Emtech sealers and topcoat.

Review

Best stain ever!

Tyler Rochford · Feb 22, 2021

I am not so sure why this product is in clearance. It is my favourite go-to stain. It doesn’t streak or blotch, or make brush marks; It reveals the beauty of the wood underneath. It is compaticle with all kinds of finishes. It is just perfect. I tried to replace with Mohawk, with is alcohol-based and penetrates kind of the same way, but it doesn’t behave or look as nice as the Emtech stain.
