SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
New Wood:
- Remove dirt, grease, glue or other contaminants.
- Sand wood with 150/180 grit sandpaper.
Old Wood:
- Strip old finishes completely and remove all surface contaminants.
- Make sure surface is dry, then sand wood with 150/180 grit sandpaper.
MIXING
• DO NOT mix more bleach than you will immediately use
• DO NOT pour excess bleach back into the original containers.
• If Bleach2 settles over time, shake vigorously and then leave to cool down before mixing with Bleach1.
- Mix Bleach1 and Bleach2 in a 4:1 ratio in a plastic container just prior to application. If a stronger solution is needed, use a 3:1 ratio.
- Stir the mixture gently once or twice before applying. Do not shake it.
APPLICATION
Always test on a spare piece of the same type of wood you will be bleaching before working on your main project. Bleaching results will vary based on the age and type of wood.
- After preparing the wood, apply the mixture with a synthetic paint brush or sponge.
Allow the wood to dry (3 hours minimum). Dry time may vary based on moisture content in wood.
- Sand gently with 280 grit sandpaper to remove any raised wood grain.
- Remove dust before applying a stain and/or topcoat.
CLEAN UP
- Equipment coated with or containing bleach should be cleaned immediately with soap and water after use if it is not going to be used again within one hour.
- Dispose according to local regulations.
PRECAUTIONS
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or wind.
- Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Use protective clothing, stripping gloves and eyewear.
- If contact with skin or eyes occurs, flush affected areas with water for 15 minutes. After contact with eyes, get medical attention immediately after flushing with water.
- Bleach is flammable. Bleaching releases oxygen which may ignite combustible materials if left in contact with them. This is particularly true of paint or varnish deposits or spray dust. Keep away from open flames, sources of heat or combustible materials like paint and varnish. Extinguish fire with water.
