FAQ

Should I prefer Odorless Thinner or Citrus Solvent be used to dilute my finishing product?

The Odorless Thinner is a Mineral solvent, which is derived from petroleum. This leads many users to avoid this product due to environmental concerns. However, it remains widely used in the preparation of pure vegetable oil and wax for wood finishing. Its role is to help the oil mixture penetrate the wood fibers and dissolve the wax, evaporating completely within 24 to 48 hours after application.

On the other hand, Citrus Solvent is a Vegetable Solvent, which is made from distilled citrus peels to create a product similar to turpentine, but with a pleasant orange scent. It belongs to the family of D-Limonenes and has the same properties and uses as mineral solvent, but also emits a considerable amount of VOCs during its use. In addition, it is imported from distant regions such as California or Brazil, which also raises environmental issues. In the end, there is no perfect solution!

Can Citrus Solvent and Odorless Thinner be mixed in order to reduce the strong citrus odor?

Mixing Citrus Solvent and Odorless Thinner is not a problem and will not affect performance. In fact, some thinner manufacturers use this mixture under the name of low-odor orange solvent.
