Is it possible to apply a finishing oil coat on a newly installed floor?

Oils have become as popular as varnishes for floors. Floorboard manufacturers produce as many pre-oiled boards as they do pre-varnished ones. Hence, it is possible and even recommended by some manufacturers. Factory-oiled floors are often given a very quick oil treatment because manufacturers are required to produce large quantities of boards within a relatively short timeframe. But what do we need to know before oiling a new floor?

The preparation is relatively straightforward. Ask the manufacturer which finishing oil was used on your floor. If you can't obtain this information, you'll need to use a finishing oil that's available on the market, such as Prato-Verde's Secondo oil, which is generally compatible with most oils. Once you have the oil in hand, simply clean the floor thoroughly as recommended by the manufacturer, then apply a coat of oil to the entire floor once the wood is completely dry. Always follow the finishing oil manufacturer's recommendations.
