Are There Oils That Offer Different Sheen Levels, Beyond Just Matte?

Most finishing oils, when applied, provide a sheen that ranges from matte to satin. The number of coats applied often plays a significant role in enhancing the final sheen.

The German brand Osmo offers its Polyx-Oil finish in various sheen levels. To our knowledge, it is the only brand to offer three distinct sheen options for its finishing oils.

  • Polyx-Oil 3031 Matte provides a perfectly matte finish.
  • Polyx-Oil 3043 Satin delivers a subtle, glossy finish.
  • Polyx-Oil 3011 Gloss is ideal for a high-gloss finish.

It’s important to note that Polyx-Oil is different from other oils. It penetrates more superficially, which makes achieving an optimal polish easier. In contrast, most oils penetrate deeply into the wood fibers, making it harder to achieve a glossy finish.

Before purchasing Polyx-Oil, be sure to consult the product’s technical data sheet, as its application process differs slightly from other oils. Additionally, small liquid samples are available for testing, allowing you to try it before committing to larger projects.
