I want to add a hint of black transparently to deepen the shou Sugi ban wood surface of white cedar while I’m adding a protective polyurethane finish? Is Mixol the best for this and if so what would be the best ratio to use?

Mixol Universal Tinting Paste will work as it is compatible with most varnishes and lacquers.

As for the ratio, you will have to use your own judgment. Just remember to add 1 drop at a time and test until you get the desired look.
