What are the options for finishing an interior timber frame?

The current trend for timber frames is to finish them with natural finishing oils. Oils from brands like Osmo, Prato-Verde, Rubio Monocoat, or Odie's Oil are all excellent options for achieving a robust, durable, and easy-to-maintain finish.

Because these constructions are almost entirely made of wood, they can appear a bit dark even with lots of windows. That's why it's often advantageous to use oils with no color or with a very low coloration.

Each manufacturer of natural oils has an extensive range of products for all interior and exterior needs. When choosing an oil brand, it's important to consider the number of coats needed to achieve optimal protection. In the case of a timber frame, the answer should be one coat. Additionally, the chosen product should offer protection for a minimum of 10-15 years for walls and woodwork, and 20 years for ceilings. The price-to-quality ratio of natural oils is always advantageous compared to modern oils from major brands.
