How to protect the interior wood of a sauna?

If you own a sauna, the use of a Finishing Oil is essential to protect and maintain the quality of its wood. It is important to choose a high-quality oil that will allow the wood to breathe while making it waterproof and preventing the growth of microorganisms. Varnishes are not recommended for saunas because their plastic film is not suitable for such a humid environment.

Emulsified oils are ideal for treating saunas because some contain very few solvents or none at all, and produce little or no VOC. In addition, these oils have a low odor and dry quickly. Other oils containing solvents can also be used, but they emit more VOC and have a stronger odor, requiring additional ventilation for several days to eliminate the odor. For all these reasons, Ardec particularly recommends either Brio Zero, Oil Plus 2C or Odie’s product for a sauna.

It is important to clean the sauna several times a year with a soap recommended by the oil manufacturer.
