How can you select the appropriate Bona sealer for either your raw wood species or an existing floor you wish to match?

Bona has developed five floor sealers in various colors to cater to the specific requirements of your wood type or to harmonize with an aged existing floor, or even to achieve the same effect as traditional oil-based varnishes.

  • NaturalSeal: This sealer contains a small amount of white dye and is primarily used to provide a subtle white shade to wood species like sugar maple, white pine, white oak, or white ash. For a more pronounced effect, you can apply two coats of NaturalSeal.
  • NordicSeal: With a higher concentration of white dye than NaturalSeal, NordicSeal produces a whitewashed effect in a single coat, eliminating the need for a white stain. To achieve an even whiter floor, you can apply two coats of NordicSeal or utilize Bona's DryFast white stain.
  • ClassicSeal: This remarkably transparent sealer accentuates the natural color of the wood. It is colorless and does not alter the wood's color that will be varnished. ClassicSeal preserves the original hue of the chosen wood, does not cause yellowing or whitening of the floor, and requires only a single application.
  • IntenseSeal: Slightly tinted with an amber shade, this sealer imparts warmth to wood species such as walnut, mahogany, or exotic woods. It can also help match the tone of an aging existing floor.
  • AmberSeal: This sealer features an amber shade but does not yellow, making it ideal for blending with older, weathered floors. AmberSeal resembles the appearance of traditional oil-based varnishes. Applying two coats may be necessary to achieve a more pronounced amber effect. It can be overlaid with any varnish from the Bona range.

Before applying the sealer to the entire floor, it is advisable to conduct a test on a small concealed area or a wood sample to ensure that the color and effect align with your desired outcome.

Remember that applying a sealer is a crucial step in finishing a wood floor. It safeguards the wood, enhances varnish adhesion, and aids in achieving the desired color and effect. Hence, selecting the right product is of utmost importance.

Keep in mind that whenever Bona's Traffic HD varnish is employed, it is necessary to apply a coat of Bona sealer.
