Cutting boards, butcher blocks or any other surfaces in contact with food are easier to maintain if they are treated with oil. This treatment also improves their resistance to humidity.
Use a pure Tung Oil. For a brand new surface, dilute a small quantity of pure Tung Oil with an equal part of Citrus Solvent.
Apply generously on wood and wait 30 minutes, then wipe any excessive oil. Wait 24 to 36 hours and repeat.
After two diluted coats, apply 2 to 4 coats of pure Tung Oil. Let 24 to 36 hours between every coat, and wipe any excessive oil.
It’s recommended to renew the treatment 3 to 4 times per year by applying a coat of pure Tung Oil.
Cleaning and maintenance.
Clean your cutting board using soapy water and a brush. The board must not stay damp or remain in contact with water, this could cause some cracks.
To avoid the deformation of the board, use both sides of it. Let the board dry in the open air by placing it vertically. Avoid exposing the board to high temperatures.
For a complete restoration, sand the surface using a 220 grit sandpaper and apply 2 to 4 coats of pure Tung Oil.
