I'm building a set of kitchen cupboards out of Maple, dressed for the doors and drawer fronts, plywood for the cabinet. I want to stain or dye the lower unit a dark grey but allow the grain to show. The upper units will be a light grey. I'm experimenting with Minmax without success on the dark grey. I bought your black dye about a year ago but it won't allow the grain to come through. I've been rubbing it on with a rag and a foam brush. I haven't tried spraying yet.
Is there are a process, a dye or stain that will allow the grain to pop thru. I did it once with your dye but I was using ash wood. Thanks for your help

Hi,

The only suitable products would be either the Water Based Dye Stain by General Finishes in Pewter, or the Gel Stain, also by General Finishes in grey.

Hope this helps!
