I'm looking to excentuate the grain of my ash guitar

Do I apply a lacquer before using a dark filler to bring out the grain? Can I seal the guitar with tru oil after using a water based dye?

Any tips are appreciated!

Hello,

You can pre-stain using a 50% diluted sealer before applying the filler. The water-based dye should be applied over the filler and then it is recommended to apply two coats of sealer.

I don’t think there is any problem to use True Oil over a water based dye and under a solvent or water based lacquer. If you use a water based lacquer I advise you to do adhesion tests.
