How should one handle and safely dispose of soiled rags or other accessories used for applying wood treatment oils?

When working with wood finishing oils, it is vital to exercise caution when getting rid of oil-soaked rags or applicator pads. Improper handling of these items can lead to spontaneous combustion. To mitigate this risk, it is recommended to use a container with sufficient capacity to hold water and submerge each used rag or pad. Avoid washing oily rags or placing them in the dryer, as this can also cause spontaneous combustion. Once the rags have been completely submerged in water for several minutes, they can be safely disposed of in outdoor waste containers.
