Can linseed oil be used as a wood sealer and preservative underneath oil based paint.
In other words, can I apply linseed oil to exterior surfaces of raw pine wood window. After curing, can I then apply an oil-based paint followed up with two coats of latex enamel paint.

OR would it be better to just use two coats of oil-based primer?

I am having to replace this window due to water damage from blowing and wind driven rain water damage.

Hello,

I believe that two coats of oil-based sealant and two water-based topcoats will be sufficient. it is not necessary to put linseed oil first.

Which oil-based sealant do you recommend?

Sorry! We are not in this type of product, it would be better to inform you with a paint dealer.
