Hi ,

I just completed applying dark tung oil to a 150 grit sanded, kiln dried 8x10 section of Douglas Fir that will be used as a mantel.

The ends came out perfect which is dark, however, the faces did not come out as dark as we were hoping.

At this point, apart from sanding and staining, is there any product that can be applied to the current finish that will penetrate (or bond) and darken the wood at the same time maintaining translucency?

Thank you.

Hello,
ideally, it should be a light sanding and apply a very dark oil on what you have already done.

Brio de Prato-Verde for example.
