Osmo over Hemp Oil?

Hi there,

My partner has been refinishing our floor. Last year she had sanded down our Doug Fir floors (I preferred the finish before but that’s another story.) and applied four coats of hemp oil. We had made a hard wax to apply over the floor. It being our younger daughters room we find that the hard wax is wearing off and that it’s rather slippery and not as resistant as we were hoping.

There is still more floor to refinish.

I have been researching product. We finally settled on Osmo polyx oil clear mate as it looks the most promising.

Before we take the dive. I’m just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with using these products together.

Hi,

Yes that is a very good choice!

The Polyx Oil will adhere to the previously applied product no problem. We recommend applying 2 coats for best possible results.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your reply Marilyn,
could I also ask how long should I waif after or when can I apply the Osmo? Love this hemp oil!

You must wait at least 48hrs after applying the Hemp Oil.

The first picture is with two coats of Osmo on four coats of hemp oil.

The second picture is four coats of hemp oil with a wax that we had formulated.

After looking at the composition of Osmo it seemed like the best choice for what we needed. We much prefer the look of Osmo as it really gives the Fir depth.

We are now going to finish all the floors in this method.

Looks great!

Thanks Marilyn

What would you think are the best practices of removing our home made wax. Mainly Carnuba wax and Unfiltered Bee Wax. We went all in and bought most of the finish that we will need to do the top floor.

I've got to give credit to my mother who pointed us towards the Osmo line. She also recommends we investigate any of the Wood Wax Finish products over top.

So what would you recommend for Old growth Fir wood that has had a lot of hemp oil saturated into it? Any of the wood wax finish products?

Citrus Solvant and [00 steel wool to remove wax.

It's important to know that the Wood Wax Finish is made to be used before the Polyx-Oil. The Wood Wax Finish colors the wood and the Polyx-Oil seals and protects the color and the wood.

If you want to apply the Wood Wax Finish to saturated Hemp Oil floors you will need to sand using a 120 grit paper first.

Kind Regards,
