Legacy Colours Phase Out Schedule

The colours in the Legacy collection are identified by an asterisk in their name and will eventually be discontinued. Here is the phase-out schedule for Legacy colours:

Dec 31, 2024: The 6ml and 20ml sizes of Legacy colours have been phased out.
Dec 31, 2025: The 100ml, 130ml, and 3.5L sizes of Legacy colours will be phased out.
Dec 31, 2026: The remaining Legacy colours (390ml and 1.3L) will be phased out.

Pure (Clear) vs. Natural Colour

The Pure variety contains no colouring pigments while Natural contains creamy white/yellowish pigments. Although Pure contains no pigments, Linseed Oil (the base ingredient in RMC Oil Plus 2C) has a colour that slightly enhances/darkens wood compared to its raw state. Although Pure is the most popular colour in the Rubio Monocoat range, if the goal is to keep the colour of your wood in its raw state, you should incorporate just enough pigments in order to counter the darkening effect of any wood finishing oil. In order to ensure the desired effect, it is strongly recommended to carry out a colour test beforehand or to contact our technical service (you must know the wood species and also provide us with photographs beforehand). Gorgeous colour, immediately brought our mantle to life!

Used this to stain spalted arbutus (also known as madrona), a very touchy/warpy, pale and tight-grained wood. Couldn't find much online about how to treat it, settled on Rubio. Mixed 75 brown + 25 red, and as you can see the red in the wood immediately drank it up. It looks incredible in person, we get compliments often. Highly recommend you work with multiple people to buff it in to this sort of wood, unless you have a mechanical buffer -- it soaks in very very fast.
