THE BONA RED OUT FINISH SYSTEM
Apply 1-2 coats of Bona Red Out, followed by any Bona stain, natural penetrating oil, or sealer, followed by 2-3 coats of any Bona finish. Follow label directions. Visit bona.com for additional product and application information.
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
Shake and stir well before using. Mix occasionally during use.
NOTE: Bona Red Out™ can be diluted with water for a lesser effect. Dilute by mixing equal parts of water in both part A and part B.
Bona Red Out is intended to be used together as a Step 1 and Step 2 process. DO NOT MIX PART A AND PART B TOGETHER.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Bona recommends 1-2 applications depending on the desired appearance.
- Using a Bona Microfiber roller and paint tray, apply Bona Red Out Part A liberally and evenly to raw wood, smoothing it out with the grain using a cut-in pad tool, and allow to penetrate for 10-15 minutes. Wait until there is no visual puddling of part A on the floor before moving on to the next step.
- Using Bona Red Out Part B, repeat the same process. If a second coat is necessary, repeat the above process. For best results apply Part B while the floor is still wet with Part A. If part A dries completely before part B is applied, the bleaching effect will be slightly diminished. Note: If there is a hazy or chalky appearance on the floor, it’s best practice to rinse the entire floor with clean water before applying a stain or sealer. If the floor is clean and haze free, you can proceed without rinsing with water.
- BE SURE YOU ARE USING THE RECOMMENDED COVERAGE OF 450-650 SQ. FT. PER GALLON. DO NOT SPREAD TOO THIN.
- Allow the floor to dry overnight under ideal conditions of 60º-80º F(16º-27ºC) with 35-75% relative humidity. High humidity and low-temperature conditions will extend dry time, while increased ventilation and airflow will reduce dry time. Note: A pinless moisture meter can determine the most accurate dry time of Bona Red Out. Document the raw wood’s moisture content before applying Bona Red Out, and then wait until
the moisture content is within 1% of the baseline measurement before application of stain or sealer
FLOOR PREP AFTER BONA RED OUT
Once completely dry, the floor can be stained as-is for a water-popped color saturation level, or it can be buffed with a 1” red pad to smooth out any grain raise.
