Directions for use

Surface preparation:
Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%). Osmo TopOil is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use. Clean old microporous stains thoroughly. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. As a general rule, wear a dust mask during sanding works. Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood. Sand wood surfaces carefully. Begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for furniture P220-240. Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum. The finished surface is, among other things, influenced by the wood‘s natural characteristics. Therefore, a trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.

Methods of application:
Apply thinly along the wood grain with a lint-free cloth. Remove all excess product from surface. Allow to dry for approx. 8-10 hours with good ventilation. Repeat as above 2-3 times. When renovating, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface with a lint-free cloth is usually sufficient.

Cleaning of tools:
Oil finish thinner

Drying time:
Approx. 8-10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/50 % rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity can increase the drying time. Allow for good ventilation while drying. Complete curing and water resistance after 7 days.

Note:
TopOil 3058 Clear enhances the tone of wood (permanent wet effect). TopOil 3068 Natural counteracts exactly this effect and protects wood nearly invisibly. The natural colour tone of wood is preserved. On dark/reddish wood species, TopOil 3068 Natural is visible as slightly white chalky surface. TopOil 3061 Acacia is lightly pigmented, which gives the wood an elegant look.

Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time.

For cabinet interiors and drawers, apply max. one coat thinly with a cloth.

Allow for good ventilation while drying.

If a higher gloss level is desired, after thoroughly drying apply Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner thinly and polish when dry.

Wood surfaces treated with TopOil are easy to maintain. Remove coarse dirt with a broom or a vacuum cleaner. To clean, add Osmo Wash and Care concentrate to mop water and clean the surface with a damp (not wet!) cloth. Use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner to remove tough stains, which cleans and regenerates the surface at the same time.

Disposal:
Dispose of leftover product and completely emptied packaging according to local official guidelines. Only completely emptied cans can be recycled.

It is advisable to choose a high-quality oil specifically designed for such heavy use. Osmo's TopOil natural color finishing oil is particularly recommended for this type of project and many similar ones, as it has been specifically formulated to protect surfaces in contact with food.

It contains a small amount of white pigment that helps maintain the initial whiteness of the white pine. For commercial furniture, it is recommended to apply a minimum of 3 coats of this product. When using this oil, it is important to allow for a 12-day curing period before use and maintenance.

Some Tips for Effectively Maintaining Your Oiled Wood Countertops

Applying oil to your wood countertops or islands is not only safe from a toxicological standpoint, but it is also essential for the maintenance and preservation of the wood. This method makes upkeep easier, nourishes, and protects the wood, helping to extend its lifespan. Additionally, oil preserves and enhances the natural appearance of the wood without altering its look.

For daily maintenance, clean the surface with a solution of Black Soap diluted in warm water. Use a slightly dampened sponge, then dry the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid household chemical products that could damage the oiled finish.

It is important not to let water stand on the wood and to avoid direct exposure to sunlight or intense heat sources to prevent drying out or warping the wood.

To renew the protection of your countertop, apply a fresh coat of oil. While regular cleaning is important, it is equally essential to monitor the wear of the finish. Depending on usage and exposure, it is recommended to reapply a coat of oil every 12 to 24 months.

By following these tips, you’ll ensure the beauty and longevity of your oiled wood countertop for many years. Regular maintenance and damage prevention are the keys to maintaining its appearance and durability.
