Surface Prep
- Remove paint/varnish and rot/debris
- Dry the wood out (ideally reach less than 12% moisture content)
- If deeply rotted, consider drilling holes into the rotted areas to allow for deeper penetration
Application tips
- Brush or spread liberally on the surface
- Allow epoxy to soak in. Reapply if needed.
- Do not apply thicker than 12mm per application. At a 22°C shop temp, you can apply additional 12mm layers every 3 hours.
Finishing tips
Once fully cured, you can paint, varnish, or poly over the top. Be sure to remove any amine blush before doing so. For best results, sand and clean the surface beforehand. Note: For marine applications, we recommend glassing with 105 Epoxy Resin over the repair area.
Adding Fillers
WEST SYSTEM Fillers can be used to thicken the epoxy for better gap filling, or for filling voids on vertical surfaces. For most repairs made with Wood Rot Repair, 407 Low-Density Fairing Filler and 405 Filleting Blend Adhesive Filler yield great results.
