Dewaxed Blonde Shellac is used as an ecological varnish on light colored wood. It retains the clarity of light woods such as maple, and it is also used on lightly colored woods such as cherry, beech and some exotic woods.

Dewaxed Blonde Shellac is popular with artisans. Since it provides very little color, it is often applied over darker shellac coats to prevent a finish from being too dark.

Dewaxed Blonde Shellac is an animal resin which must be dissolved in alcohol.

New favorite finish

Jesse Jacobs · Feb 12, 2022

This is quickly becoming my new favorite wood finish. When you consider how little it costs and how quickly you can finish a project, it is hard to beat the efficiently of shellac. It makes some wood look like light is reflecting off the wood grain itself not the finish which highlights grain features really nicely. This came out really well on a scrap piece of ambrosia maple i practiced french polishing on using blonde shellac. It isnt finished but i attached a picture of how it looks so far. I can also get the same effect with a brushed finish for less surface gloss if it is sanded correctly. I cant wait to use more on future projects.

Best shellac flake for the price

Marc-Andre Petit · Aug 4, 2021

Shellac flake dissolve quickly and completly in alcool after a couple of hours (classic 2 pound cut). The blond Shellac add a nice chatoyancy to pine, it almost create glitter on a well plane surface if corectly apply. The wood keep it natural color with it.
