Timbermate Water-based Woodfiller is 4 in 1 interior grade Crackfiller, Edgefiller, Grainfiller and Woodputty. It can also be used as a sanding sealer when thinned slightly with water. Timbermate Woodfiller is non-flammable and non-toxic and will not sink, crack, shrink or fallout. Excellent products for luthiers who use it as wood filler.

Timbermate Woodfiller will accept nails, screws, sawing, drilling and routing. It mixes perfectly with oil or latex tints, dyes, and stains, so that custom colors can be accurately reproduced.

Timbermate is a water based product, and therefore does not contain any Acrylic, Latex or Solvents. Available in 13 premixed colours plus Natural Tint Base, Timbermate Woodfiller takes all types of known stains, varnishes and coatings. Timbermate Woodfiller will remain stable under freeze/thaw cycle, and has an unlimited shelf life: You can easily reconstitute the product if dry.

Directions for Use

For Grain Filling (filled finish)

MIX: If staining, use Timbermate Natural/Tint Base. Otherwise match the color to the wood. Mix Timbermate in the tub with warm water (a mixer attached to a heavy duty drill is ideal). Slowly pour the water in as you mix – Timbermate should have the consistency of thick paint. Allow Timbermate mixture to dry to the consistency of toothpaste before sealing tub.
APPLY: Just before the final hard plate or screening, apply Timbermate by flooding the surface and squeegee it across the grain over the entire wood surface. Do not apply Timbermate too heavily – a small amount goes a long way. Remove all excess Timbermate (return excess to the Timbermate container-no waste).
DRY: Let Timbermate dry thoroughly. Use a heat gun or similar to speed drying time if desirable. (Timbermate is properly dry if it sands to the consistency of baby powder.)
SAND: Final hard plate or screen and remove all dust and debris. (NOTE: Do not use a grit coarser than 120.)
STAIN: Apply stain to the wood (if staining).
FINISH COAT: Apply any final finish coat.

For Spot Patching

APPLY: If staining, use Timbermate Natural/Tint Base. Otherwise match the color to the wood. Using a plastic or high quality stainless steel putty knife, apply Timbermate to the wood surface directly out of the tub prior to the last sanding. (NOTE: If filler turns black, the putty knife is not high content stainless steel; however, the black will sand off.)
FILL: If hole is greater than 1/4", fill by layering Timbermate in 1/4" increments.
DRY: Let Timbermate dry thoroughly. Use a heat gun or similar to speed drying time if desirable. (Timbermate is properly dry if it sands to the consistency of baby powder.)
SAND: Final sand and remove all dust and debris.
STAIN: Apply stain to the wood (if staining).
FINISH COAT: Apply any final finish coat.

For Trowel Filling:

MIX: If staining, use Timbermate Natural/Tint Base. Otherwise match the color to the wood. Mix Timbermate in the tub with warm water (a mixer attached to a heavy duty drill is ideal). Slowly pour the water in as you mix – usually about 15% water by weight. Mix until Timbermate has the consistency of toothpaste.
APPLY: Apply Timbermate, just before the final sand, with a plastic trowel, or rubber float across the grain over the entire surface. Make sure the filler is forced into deep voids. Do not apply Timbermate too heavily – a small amount goes a long way. Remove all excess Timbermate. (Return excess to the Timbermate container-no waste.)
DRY: Let Timbermate dry thoroughly. Use a heat gun or similar to speed drying time if desirable. (Timbermate is properly dry if it sands to the consistency of baby powder.)
SAND: Final sand and remove all dust and debris. (If grain filling do not use a grit coarser than 120.)
STAIN: Apply stain to the wood (if staining).
FINISH COAT: Apply any final finish coat.

there is significant shrinkage in patching holes necessitating 2-3 applications to properly fill void

I’ve used this for a few projects and repairs now and have been very happy with the results. And, I might add, I love the smell...reminds of kindergarten plasticine I played with as a kid. Ha!

I’ve used it to fill a few small voids and dents, and I’ve used it multiple times for pore filling in mahogany and ash.

This will definitely be my go to.

Perfect match for white oak unfinished, oiled or stained. Easy to work with, reconstitutes with water. It even smells nice. Would not use any other product.

Great water based Product, easy to use. Worked great as grain filler when mixed with a little water. Its non toxic and doesn't have a chemical smell but WOW is it smelly...smells like a cows butt!
